Want to become athlete? Application to Sekolah Sukan Malaysia (Bukit Jalil & Bandar Penawar)



 Sekolah Sukan Malaysia (SSM) is special school for athletes for talented students with high potential to be nurtured. Other than academic, students will be trained aggressively according to their talents in particular sport. SSM is under control of Bahagian Sukan, Seni dan Kokurikulum, Kementerian Pelajaran Malaysia. Applications to SSM are not opened to all. However, the talented students who fulfilled the requirements to enter SSM may be selected through certain selection methods and shortlisted by certain authorities.

METHOD OF ADMISSION

Primary School Students (Years 5 and 6)
Admission of student athletes to sports schools is through the process of talent identification, talent search, talent scouting, and nomination by national sports associations and the National Sports Council. Offers of admission are made year-long based on current vacancy and sporting needs. The intake of student athletes is based on the needs of the country’s core sports.
 
Secondary School Students (Forms 1-5)
Admission of student athletes to sports schools is through the process of talent identification, talent search, talent scouting, and nomination by national sports associations and the National Sports Council. Offers of admission are made year-long based on current vacancy and sporting needs.
Minimum academic qualification of student athletes is 3Cs in the UPSR and 4Ds in the PMR.
 

Pre-University Programme
The intake of pre-university programme student athletes is based on SPM results and fulfillment of the stipulated general requirements. Those selected are student athletes who represent the country or who have the potential to represent the country in the near future. Application is made online at the MOE website. Entry requirements are as follows:
  • Has represented the country/Has the potential to represent the country
  • Has taken the SPM examination and passed Malay Language
  • Aged not more than 20 on the date of registration of the year of admission
  • Active in chosen sport continuously and recognized by the National Sports Council and national sports associations
  • Pass the interview by the selection committee if required

LIFE IN SPORT SCHOOLS
Students offered to SSM are compulsory to stay in hostels. Their schooling systems are slightly different as trainings are required to enhance their mental toughness and discipline.
Below is the routine timetable in sport school:
6.30 – 8.30am: Morning Training (I)
9.30 – 9.30am: Breakfast
9.30 – 2.30pm: Academic Class (I)
2.30 – 3.00pm: Lunch
3.30 – 7.00pm: Afternoon Training (II)
8.00 – 8.30pm: Dinner
8.30 – 10.00pm: Academic Class (II)
10.00 – 10.30pm: Supper                                                                      
11.00pm: Sleeping time

  5. Hi my son's been learning teakwondo since 5 and won gold, silver and bronze for club competition in taquek and sparring. He went for mmsd sparring but lost at final level. Now he is in standard 5 and going for poom 1 grading next year early. Other 2 of his siblings also training since 5 and 2 years old. How can I apply to join sports school .
